The “Rewritten By Machine and New Technology” exhibition includes works by internationally acclaimed artists Mark Amerika, Dara Birnbaum, Dan Graham, Gary Hill, Joan Jonas, Nam Jun Paik, Hiraki Sawa, Bill Viola and others.
The exhibition website details how “[t]hese artists use video to explore a range of concepts, among them: childhood memories and identity, the relationship of words and electronic images, scientific visualizations and the limit of human knowledge, media criticism, and digital formalism. Works date from 1971 to 2011. The exhibition includes twelve single-channel videos and two recent mixed media installations – “The Psychedelic Gedankenexperiment” by Hill and “Insurance.AES256,” which incorporates a video processed with real-time data by Magruder. Two remixes from Amerika’s Immobilité, the world’s first feature-length art film made for, and shot with, a mobile phone will also be on display.”
