“Abducted Realities” is a site-specific installation featuring digital animations, microfictions, and the performance of Mark Amerika’s 3D avatar aka The ACI.
This is my second solo show in Europe this spring following the successful opening of my exhibition “Mark Amerika. Remixing Reality. 1993-2023.” at the Marlborough gallery in Barcelona.
The installation is distributed throughout the space in three sections:
*Microfictions
*Oneiric Cinema
*Onto-Operational Presence with Otherworldly Sensibility
The exhibition will take place inside the Casa Comum at the Reitoria da Universidade do Porto in the center of Porto, Portugal, and features and original soundtrack from Amerika’s long-time collaborator Chad Mossholder.
From the co-curatorial statement by @visual.agency and @palavroclasta
“The upcoming exhibition of the American digital artist Mark Amerika at CASA COMUM will premiere several of his recent artworks offering a thought-provoking experience that blurs the boundaries between reality and fiction. Through a series of microfictions collaboratively created with artificial intelligence, Amerika invites visitors to enter a vortex of new dimensions, where the natural and the artificial coexist in a posthuman realm.
Following a continuous investigation into how humans and machines evolve in close connection, Mark Amerika’s artworks express how digital tools are extensions of the body and aesthetically shape the artworks.
At the heart of this exhibition lies the concept of abduction […] Using abduction as a narrative device, Amerika creates a sense of disorientation and uncertainty that mirrors the experience of living in a rapidly changing technological world.
As the microfictions unfold unexpectedly, visitors will be hacked and teleported to” an altered world, one created in collaboration with AI, “where the line between the familiar and the unfamiliar is blurred.”
