[Intro] Broken Saints is an ongoing digital narrative. Currently, there are five chapters available for viewers but there will eventually be twenty-four (possibly more in the future). Broken Saints tells the story of four strangers: a troubled man from the middle east, an aging monk from Northern Japan, a software engineer from the Pacific Northwest, and a mysterious girl from the South Pacific. Throughout the course of this graphic novel, the lives of these four seemingly unrelated characters intersect. Broken Saints includes hand drawn Flash animated visuals, texts and music. These elements combine to provide a haunting and engaging experience. It is the type of digital narrative that allows the viewer to sit back and watch as the story unfolds. Although the actual chapters within the story are not interactive, the viewer has the freedom to skip from chapter to chapter and browse around this highly contextual site at his or her own leisure. Although Broken Saints is an example of an image-oriented and highly technical digital narrative, it is rooted in rich literary content and provides for an addictive reading experience.
