[Intro] StarryNight transforms each body of text in the Rhizome network into a star, the first of which was born on February 5, 1996. Each new star comes into existence with the first reading of its corresponding text and grows brighter with every subsequent reading. Viewers can explore the Rhizome database by dragging their mouse over individual stars to reveal full texts and keywords. Clicking on a keyword reveals constellations of stars that share these words, resulting in a reconfigured visualization of the Internet that is a metaphor for the interconnectedness of stars in the universe. This piece challenges the standard notion of the interface by (re)presenting data not as a succession of menus and lists, but as a journey through the night sky.
