[Intro] This site was originally intended to be a simple guide to different musical genres with examples of each. It also calls into question and raises issues with the meaning of artistic genre or categorization. Genre is more than just a style. It is really a set of expectations. Yet, what is it that creates expectations and how are they defined? Art work of any kind usually falls victim to pigeonholing of some sorts as it is matched with other works that seem to have a similar content or feel. Human beings are continually trying to organize their experiences into neat and tidy boxes in order to better make sense of the world. It is as if we are trying to turn our entire life experience into a well organized database. But this exercise can border on the surreal and the ridiculous especially when works of art (or in this case music) are involved.

Another interesting function is how this site creates buttons for what can be called instantaneous mood alteration. There are repeatable loops that can evoke a particular mood. In a way this can be thought of as an applied feedback loop where the viewer controls content which in turn influences the viewer's choices concerning this content. This type of thing might work even better if the musical loops could be mixed or otherwise manipulated by the viewer, turning the viewer into a kind of self-serve DJ.
