[Intro] Desktops are a reflection of their creators; even a novice computer user shapes
the appearance of his or her desktop. In some ways, desktops are similar to
living spaces: they can be arranged, rearranged, kept clean, messy, beautifully
adorned or sterile, heavily manipulated by the user, or left up to the design
aesthetic of Bill Gates. This work presents a number of screens that were
created specifically for this project, and others are snapshots of working
desktops that have been sent in. This site calls attention to the role of
desktops as they relate to their users' identities.
