[Intro] Stephen Vitiello's Tetrasomia is a collection of real world sounds that have been gathered from the net and compiled into a kind of virtual mixer. Upon entering the site we are faced with sonic textures representing the four essential elements, ranging from the sound of an underwater volcanic eruption to the mating calls of fruit flies, with noises made by poison dart frogs thrown in for good measure. Vitiello gives us four of his own mixes made with each grouping of sounds and then invites us to make our own tracks though the use of his virtual mixer. We can turn on and off each sound experiencing different groupings and textures of ambient real world sound, and in the process re-evaluate sound that would not usually be considered music or considered art for that matter. While the artist presents his own takes on these sounds he offers them only as his personal re-mixes. Thus visitors to the site are offered the opportunity to be the musicians, to create their own remixes and to use the same tools (links) to gather more sound.
