Carnivore |
Alex Galloway's Carnivore is a piece of software, inspired by the FBI's
DCS1000, that snoops on network traffic.
After installing Carnivore, a user can program
his own "client" to visually or otherwise interpret the data that Carnivore picks up.
Alex Galloway admits that Carnivore could be used as a real surveillance tool to steal passwords, credit card information and anything else that's being sent on a network, but encourages users to behave honestly. Like virus writers, he treads a fine line. If someone used his software to commit a crime, would he share in the responsibility for their actions? |
